Guava is a topical fruit which grows on a small tree in the myrtle family, this high nutritious fruit is native in Mexico, Central America, and Northern South America. Guava grows to the size between 1.6 to 407 inches long, most frequently eaten like an apple in these countries. This fruit is round or oval depending on the species, outer skin is rough with a bitter taste much like a lemon. When matured and ripe most often the fruit is yellow or maroon color, green, white guava fruit is a deep red color.

  1. I have read many health benefits of guava but to be honest I have never seen what they look like before until now.

    I have a heart condition and on medication, do you think that this will help me? I like the sound of the drinks and looking at the long list of ways it can help to reduce the risk of potentially life threatening conditions is remarkable.

    Do you think there would be any contraindications re medication for hypertension and heart disease? I know that I have to avoid Grapefruit.

  2. Nice information on guavas! I forgot how nutritious they are. I used to eat them all the time when I was younger but have grown out of it since then. It is so amazing how one fruit can have so much health benefits.

    I know there are many ways the fruit can be purchased but I was wondering if there are different species of guavas and if one is better than the others? I used to work in a biotechnology lab that worked on a certain species of blueberries because it was better than the others so that’s why I was wondering.

      There are several species of Guava fruit, but it all depends on your taste which species is better to you. Guava fruit all has about the same nutrients and benefits, it just depends on your taste.

  3. Very interesting article. I would love to incorporate these into my salads. I know you mentioned fruit salads as a possible way, what would you recommend for regular salads? I’m always looking for ways to become healthier and have more options for snacking as well. Nowadays its so hard to still to healthy eating with so many unhealthy foods. Thanks!

      I often mix fruit and veggies together as my own salad, there are no rules when it comes to making your salad put whatever you like and want in your salad and enjoy.
