For some time I have been researching how our food could be causing many of our health problems today, with so many new health problems developing there has to be a link between our food and our health? Over the years I have decreased my consumption of processed foods which has improved my health issues, and even though I have not been able to give up meat completely I have cut back. If you are interested in the studies between vegans and meat eaters this article will interest you, giving up meat is just as hard for most of us as it is for an alcoholic to give up alcohol?

What Is Different About Our Meat ?


In my opinion it is not the meat which might be the problem, but how the meat is processed and what the meat source eats? Since going to grass-fed meat my symptoms from inflammation has decreased dramatically, today I am not able to eat processed foods, gluten foods, or dairy products.


Loma Linda University Research


Loma Linda University is located in the state of California in the United States, this university has been conducting studies on the lifespan of vegetarians and vegans compared to the rest of the population. At this time the studies are showing vegetarians and vegans are living longer than meat eaters, these studies began in the year 1958. Folks who live on a plant-based diet lives between 6.1 and 9.5 years longer than meat eaters, this should be a big motivator for more of us to eat more plant-based foods and less meat.

  1. I am currently trying to eat only vegetarian. However, sometimes it is hard to completely stop eating meat, as in Portugal, the food has mostly meat included. So going to restaurants (or grandma’s house) makes it sometimes really hard to avoid eating meat. Regarding the health, I think that indeed, being vegetarian / vegan is good for your health. Do you know if there is any problem being vegetarian / vegan and trying to work out a lot?

      I appreciate you sharing your honest experience with stop eating meat, I understand what you are sharing about eating out or at family events. I am not able to eat gluten or dairy due to digestion health problems and eating out is something I do very rarely simply because there are not many choices. When I eat out it is mostly salad dishes, salad’s are usually a pretty safe choice when eating out.

      There are many body builders today who are vegan’s, so if they can be body builders and vegans I see no reason there would be any concerns for you if you work out a lot. You may wish to add pea protein to your diet for extra energy, it is high in protein and completely vegan.


  2. Thank you for this informative and interesting post. I myself have been pescatarian (no meat but still eat fish some dairy and eggs) for a decade now, have always felt healthy besides energy levels which a little exercise is usually able to help with. I am wondering if you’ve ever read or heard of the book called The China Study? This book was written by a scientist who studied the effect of casein (animal protein found in milk) and the ways it leads to cancer in rats, it’s a very interesting and somewhat scary book.

    I eat pretty close to vegan these days, still eat salmon and eggs for protein but recently was finally able to cut out CHEESE! That was the hard one for me.

    One thing that helped was asking myself what my cravings for cheese actually meant? I came to understand they meant my body needed or was craving FAT, so whenever I was craving cheese I would reach for a handful of almonds, walnuts or other fatty nuts instead. It’s mostly worked!

    Now the most dairy I have is cream in my coffee. I don’t like tofu and have always been wary about soy, so I’m trying to find the best nondairy creamer alternative. I drink oat milk or rice milk instead of dairy milk.

    I agree with you and the research you have presented, I think eating a whole food, plants based diet is the best way to care for our bodies! I also recognize that diet is such a personal thing for people, and it CAN be as hard for a meat eater to change their diet as it is for an alcoholic to quit alcohol. It’s a psychological as well as literal physical addiction based on cravings.

    Anyway thank you again for this post, it has given me a lot to think about!

      All you have shared with my readers and myself is great information and inspirational, I also have more problems with giving up animal products such as cheese and eggs. I am attempting this month to give them up as well and try going totally vegan and see how I feel. I snack on mixed nuts in the evenings which I am finding is eliminating my cravings, you are on the right track with almonds they are filling and very healthy plus help with any cravings.

I’ve read a lot into the benefits of eating a vegan diet when fighting cancer and I would absolutely go 100% plan based if I was ever in that position but in regards to the causes of cancer, I think the additives, the meds given to the animals and the many other failings in the meat industry and more to blame than just eating meat in itself. We only eat organic wherever possible but I want to have a small holding ideals so I can always know the meat we’re eating is clean and chemical free and the animals have had as good a life as possible before they are on the table.

The food given to these animals has a huge impact on how healthy they are for us to eat, medications and chemicals to make them grow faster and larger also influences the reason they are unhealthy for people today.


  4. I had to join your mailing list after reading your post. We often hear about carcinogens being in meat (especially the meat that is over-cooked/burned on the grill or in the pan.) One thing is for sure, even if you can’t stop eating meat entirely, simply cutting back will help your overall health in the long term.

    For example, if you can’t see yourself living without a good burger, then cut back all meat except for burgers ever so often. Every small improvement weight greater in terms of being health wise.

I am not a complete vegan by any means, but I am trying to cut back on meat and add more vegetables and fruits into my diet.
