Allergies & Allergy Medications

Allergies are miserable to live with especially when you experience chronic allergy, I had been treating my chronic allergies with allergy over-the-counter medication and then prescription allergy medications. Now those medications are not controlling my allergies any longer, so I have found allergy relief naturally by using essential oils. You can save money as well as experience more effective allergy relief with essential oils, I only wish I had turned to essential oils a long time ago.

Allergy Symptoms

  • Blocked Nasal Passages
  • Runny Nose
  • Sneezing
  • Watery Eyes
  • Headaches
  • Dry Mouth
  • Dry Eyes
  • Loss Of Appetitie
  • Dry Throat
  • Itcy Throat
  • Swallowing Difficulty
  • Fatigue
  • Loss Of Sleep

When you experience seasonal allergies that is miserable enough, but when you experience chronic allergies it can play a dramatic effect on your life. You will often experience problems being as productive when you are experiencing severe chronic allergy symptoms, you will be experiencing your immune system causing you much inflammation and for myself I often have breathing and swallowing problems. I often lose weight from a loss of my appetite, you will experience allergies can also trigger many other health problems.

allergy symptoms

When you are experiencing allergy symptoms your immune system will be causing inflammation to fight your allergic triggers, I often experience severe breathing and swallowing difficulties which can be life threatening for many people. We all have different allergy triggers which puts our immune system on alert with inflammation, but here are some of the most common allergy triggers to watch out for.

  • Pollen
  • Dust
  • Mold
  • Insect Stings
  • Animal Dander
  • Medication
  • Latex
  • Ragweed-Hay Fever
  • Food

I am one of the unlucky ones who have most of these triggers plus many more; I am experiencing as I become older my triggers are becoming more severe causing my allergy symptoms chronically most days. Lately food has been a major trigger for my symptoms, I recommend if you are having severe allergy symptoms regularly to consider doing the elimination diet to know which foods might be contributing to your symptoms. This was the method I used myself to understand the foods which was causing my chronic symptoms, you can solve this puzzle very easy within about one month by using this method.

Most Common Food Allergens

  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Tree Nuts
  • Peanuts
  • Gluten ( Wheat, Rye, Barley )
  • Soybeans

This list is just the major food triggers for the majority of people with food allergies, I have found any food products which are processed with added chemicals and preservatives are also severe triggers for me. Doing the elimination diet you can narrow down exactly which foods are your trigger foods, I am able to eat some foods in these food groups, but not all the foods in any of these food groups are tolerable for my immune system. I do the best when I stick to a fresh fruit and veggie diet with fresh grass-fed meats, but like anyone I get bored with eating the same foods and at times I eat foods which I shouldn’t and I do pay for it.

Peppermint Oil

For anyone who experiences allergy symptoms I recommend you give peppermint oil a try, I have found this essential oil relieves my allergy symptoms in a very short time. I can actually feel my symptoms improving by ingesting any a few drops of this oil, I find even better results by adding five drops of this essential oil in my diffuser. You should never ingest more than a few drops of peppermint oil per day, I do feel you would be safer to use the diffuser method than ingesting this oil directly. You can even apply a few drops below your nostrils for a safe method if you do not own a diffuser, I do recommend anyone with severe allergies purchase a diffuser whenever they are able to afford one.

I recommend this beverage for those of you who might be on fixed income budgets and just can’t afford to purchase the peppermint essential oils and a diffuser, You also can add a few drops of peppermint essential oil in your food and beverages for an easy allergy relief solution.

Home Brewed Peppermint Tea

I have had such an awesome experience with peppermint for my own chronic allergies I have started a peppermint garden in my backyard, but you can also grow peppermint indoors as a houseplant to always have a supply to prepare your own home brewed peppermint tea. You will be receiving more benefits from your home brewed tea than the peppermint tea you purchase from the store, so for anyone interested in brewing their own peppermint tea here is my own personal recipe. By the way, you will want to plant your peppermint in an area by itself since it will take over an area in such a very little amount of time. Peppermint does very well in containers, and this would be convenient for people with year round allergies.

  • 1/2 Cup Peppermint Leaves
  • 3-4 Cups Boiling Water
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Of Honey Optional

Boil three to four cups of water the hotter the better, you then will add your peppermint leaves to your boiling water. Once you had the peppermint leaves shut off the heat immediately, I recommend you allow your tea to seep for about five minutes. Pour your tea through a tea strainer, you can purchase these at most of your local stores inexpensively. Now you just add your honey if you desire honey in your tea, so now your tea is ready to pour into a cup and sip to relieve your allergy symptoms naturally.

My allergies have be going crazy this year and just like your medication stopped working, mines has too! I am going to have to try the peppermint tea until I can budget enough to get a diffuser. I dislike a running nose, sneezing, and blocked nasal passages when I have so much to do each day. So I am willing to give this a try. Thanks for the info.

      Hello Kendrick

I am happy to hear from you, I understand your situation not being able to afford a diffuser at this time. You can purchase peppermint oil in the essential ol form for less than ten dollars, you then can add a few drops to your peppermint tea to give you an extra boost for your allergies.

    Hi there

You mentioned growing your own peppermint for making the tea, what if i dont have any grown can i use shop brought ones. Is there really a big difference in terms of the nutritional benefits between the two?

I have hayfever, will peppermint help with this type of allergy?

    thanks

      Thank You,

You can purchase the peppermint herb for a very inexpensive price during the spring and summer months, you can even order it through gardening and herb catalogs.

If you just don’t have an interest to grow your own you can purchase from your favorite garden or herb shop, when you grow your own you are getting plants you know are organic and healthier.

You can even purchase peppermint oil which from a good company will be pure, there are many ways you can purchase peppermint without growing it. The biggest benefit is you will have a supply year round when you grow it right at your own home, you will find it is not available fresh year round in many areas

Pollen is at all time high I think this year in my area. My allergies have been flared for the last few weeks. I am usually only sensitive to cottonwood, but something else in the air this year has me stuffed.
I am so glad to hear about peppermint. I am a gardener and already have some growing. I normally use mint tea for an upset tummy. Knowing this will help with my allergies is a bonus!
I love essential oils as well so I will look into getting some of that to diffuse indoors until this pollen has let up a bit.
Thank you for the great tips!

      Hello Christina

We share the allergies worse this year than most years, we did have a lot of snow this winter but our temps was not extremely cold so maybe that explains the high pollen this year. I am happy you already have peppermint growing in your garden, you are all set for treating your allergies. If you up your drinking of peppermint tea this will help your allergies as well, I have found even peppermint candy helped my allergies but that is not a good option if you are watching your waistline

      Hello,

I always try to remind people to mix their essential oils with a carrier oil for safe usage, I have found peppermint oil or even peppermint tea home brewed has many health benefits and should be a part of our health daily routine.

Thanks for posting this great information as allergies have hit hard this year and I am suffering miserably. This time of year always seems to sets my allergies into motion and I seem to fight it through the summer months. Just last week I had to go in to the doctor for a steroid shot to help combat the seasonal woes.

I like the idea of the peppermint tea as that is something I can use when I go to work and I feel would be quite beneficial. I am not allowed a diffuser at the office but definitely will start using it at home and see if it can bring some relief. I love to use all natural products when I can as I hate the side affects that many pharmaceuticals may cause. I will definitely be check this out.
