When you have a child with special needs,  they often experience problems falling asleep and staying asleep. When your child is not receiving enough quality sleep it will increase many of their health problems. Some children have found a good sleep routine by their parents simply adding a white noise machine to their bedtime routine.  Routine is very important for these children in every part of their day, this is also true for their nights as well and often one of these products will improve a child’s sleep.

Sleep problems is well known in my family, so I would say with confidence my family has natural sleep disorders of some type. When you are not receiving the right kind of sleep it will affect all aspects of your life, many people do not realize their sleep is affecting their lives until they are struggling to function with their everyday tasks? When I was a child,  I often cried myself to sleep, today medical professionals recommend you never allow your child to cry themselves to sleep. Having your child’s physician check their nutritional levels is a good idea, many children with special needs experiences nutritional deficiency. Vitamin D deficiencies often cause insomnia, some children who are restless with disturbed sleep also have been found to be low on magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids. Keeping a journal of your child’s sleep routine can often help improve their sleep problems, a simple blood test is all it takes for your physician to check your child’s nutrition levels.


Sensory Issues


Sensory issues is found in the majority of special needs children, these issues causes these children to experience hypersensitivity. These kids are sensitive to the slightest noises, even the slight change of lighting can disrupt these kid’s sleep. Many children with hypersensitivity wake up during the night when the air conditioning system kicks on, during the winter the furnace kicking on can disrupt their sleep as well.

Many do not know that children also have problems following asleep because it can be something simple as nutritional deficiency or vitamin D deficiency. I believe if the white noise machine helps every parent should consider investing in one for the health of a child. An excellent post about special needs children sleeping habits.     That’s a great post on special needs children sleep disorder. I did not know about the white noise machine or a non bouncy mattress. Your tips are very helpful for people who may be dealing with these problems. Behavior problems become worse in children who don’t get adequate sleep so this is an important issue.
