Natural Treatment

 

Your goals with your arthritis treatment plan should be to decrease your inflammation and pain, increase your joint mobility in hopes to improve your joint functioning. Heat therapy will relax the muscles and increase circulation in your specific joint areas. Heat packs and heating pads are usually the most common methods to apply heat to the painful joints, for swollen joints I always use cold therapy. This numbs the joint area giving me some pain relief, use both of these 20 minutes or less. Ice packs are the best method to use, but you can use frozen veggie packages if you do not have ice packs.

I have lived with arthritis my entire life, over the years I have discovered some natural methods which gives me the most relief. Sipping on this herb tea relieves my inflammation and pain throughout my day, I do not only suffer with joint arthritis I also suffer with inflammation on my face, nose, eyes and even my throat. Sipping on this tea during the day and bad nights prevents me from swelling up to the point I have to make emergency calls to the hospital, I have had more than my share of middle of the night going to the emergency room being so inflamed I could barely breathe or swallow.

 

Herbal Arthritis Tea Recipe

 

You can prepare this home brewed tea or purchase supplements, I am a tea drinker so I always have some type of herbal tea sitting in my fridge. For folks who do not prefer to brew their own tea or do not like tea, supplements are available.

2 Cups Water

1/2 Teaspoon Ground Ginger

1/2 Teaspoon Ground Turmeric

Honey

 

Add ginger and turmeric to boiling water, reduce to simmer for 10-15 minutes. Strain and add your honey, this makes two servings.

 

 

Add Magnesium To Your Diet

 

Magnesium is very important for our health, our bodies do not produce this we must get it through our diets or supplements. Magnesium relaxes our muscles and nerves endings which relieves our stiff, achy, painful joints. The majority of people with inflammation problems do not absorb the vitamins and minerals from their diets very well, this is available through supplements, your diet with dark leafy greens. Also,  there is a magnesium oil you apply to your joints, so adding this to your treatment plan is very easy to do.

 

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

 

Did you know olive oil is good to rub on your joints for your joint pain, you can also take this orally if you desire. 2-3 tablespoons orally daily to lubricate those stiff joints, as you know this is high in calories but they are good calories.

 

Must I Exercise?

 

As much as it hurts to bend those stiff joints we must keep active, I have found doing gentle stretching yoga to be the easiest on my joints and less painful for me. Other exercises some folks find beneficial are walking and swimming. Starting out I recommend only about 5 minutes of yoga if you have not been active in a while and experience extremely tight joints then slowly lengthen until you can do at least 30 minutes per day. The more active you can be the better, for me 30 minutes per day most days is enough to keep my joints less stiff and less painful.

Another one I recommend is fish oil if you do not eat much fish, I prefer to take the fish oil supplement rather then eat too much fish with the polluted waters today.
